Southern's Ashley Boutte Heads SWAC Preseason SWAC Soccer Team

Southern University's Ashley Boutte, from Lake Charles, LA, heads up the
first-ever Southwestern Athletic Conference Preseason Soccer team as
voted by the conference soccer coaches and sports information directors.
Last season, in the SWAC's first year of sponsoring soccer as a women's
championship sport, Ashley was named Freshman of the Year. The 5-9
sophomore forward led the NCAA (D-1) in points/gm (4.23) and goals/gm
(1.92).

Other 2003 NCAA national leaders joining Boutte on the first team are
Mississippi Valley State's Emma O'Connor (#5 in Assists - 0.67), Texas
Southern's Jennifer Tavera (#8 I goals/gm - 1.0 and #16 in points/gm -
2.1) and Mississippi Valley State's Sheena Cussen (#16 in goals/gm -
0.86 and #17 in points/gm - 2.06).

There was a one tie on the first team for Goal Keeper as Alabama A&M's
Priscilla Mensah and Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Renita Murphy collected seven
votes each.

Alabama A&M, the 2003 SWAC Champion was predicted to capture the East Division crown and Grambling State, last year's runner-up, was tabbed to
capture the West Division crown.

Alabama A&M and Arkansas-Pine Bluff had four (4) players selected to the
preseason team. Jackson State and Prairie View A&M had three (3)
selectees, followed by Grambling State with two (2). Alcorn State,
Southern and Texas Southern had one (1) player each chosen.
