Hampton, Va. - Fresh off of receiving and constructing their new boats just over a month ago, the Hampton University Sailing program is set to host a "Blessing of the Fleet" on Friday afternoon on the campus of Hampton University.

HU received a new fleet of FJs just over a month ago, and it was the first time the school had received new boats since the inception of the program 10 years ago. With this being the 10-year Anniversary of the first Historically Black College/University sailing program in the nation, Hampton University will have a number of guests at the christening of the new boats before taking part in their home event (MAISA/SAISA Intersectional) this weekend in Hampton.

HU head sailing coach Carolyn Grant will be hosting the event. Special invited guests include Dr. William R. Harvey (President of Hampton University), Gary Jobson and Olympic Coach Gary Bodie will be present to help commemorate this occasion.

Festivities are going to be held behind the Marine Science Building at the HU Sailing docks on the campus of Hampton University. The event is set to take place at 1 p.m. Sandwiches and refreshments will be served immediately following the event.
