VSU GOLF FINISHES THIRD AT SAVANNAH STATE INVITATIONAL

Virginia State University's golf team finished in third place at the
2007 Savannah State University Tiger Invitational, concluded on
Wednesday in Savannah, Ga.
 
VSU finished the 36-hole course with a team score of 617, behind
Fayettevill State University's score of 592 and Savannah State's 610.
 
Bethune-Cookman, Alabama State, Florida A & M, Chicago State, South
Carolina State, Saint Augustine's and Winton-Salem State all finished
behind VSU.
 
VSU's Jerel Whiting was the top finisher for the Trojans, who finished
in fifth place, completing the course with a score of 147.
 
The Trojans' Greg Hunt finished tied for seventh place with a score of
149.
 
Doug Smith of Florida A & M won the individual title in a playoff with
Kevin Lyles of Fayetteville State. Both had identical scores of 142 at
the end of 36 holes.
