SC State Women Capture Savannah
State Golf Title, Men Slip to 8th

SAVANNAH, GA – The South Carolina
State women’s golf team captured
first place at the Savannah State
Tiger Fall Invitational, while the
men finished eighth at the event
being played at the Henderson Golf
Club.
The Lady Bulldogs, led by freshman
Honesty Biggers, who captured
medalist honors with a (84-80)
36-hole total of 164, fired a team
total of (364-350) 714 in winning
the three-team tournament and their
second title since the inception of
the program.
Chicago State was second at
(367-376) 743, followed by host
Savannah State, which was at
(471-460) 931.
Following Biggers for
Coach Herman Belton’s team were
Jennie McCollum, who was fourth
overall at (89-88) 177, Danielle
Williams at (94-92) 186 and Geneva
Mackey at (97-90) 187.
The Bulldogs, fourth
after carding an opening round 312
Tuesday, ballooned to a 333 on
Wednesday for a 36-hole total of 645
in falling to eighth place in the
ten-team field.
Fayetteville State
captured the men’s title with a
36-hole total of (296-296) 592. Host
Savannah State was second at
(303-307) 610, followed by Virginia
State at (308-309) 617, Bethune-Cookman
at (315-304) 619 and Alabama State,
who rounded out the top five, at
(320-301) 621.
Senior Aaron Robinson
had the top performance for Coach
Richard Arrington’s team with a
36-hole total of (77-82) 159. He was
followed by junior Cory Jozefiak
with a (79-81) 160, Matt Gilliard at
(77-85) 162 and Robert Biggers, the
brother of Honesty Biggers, with a
(79-85) 164. Also competing for the
Bulldogs was Hector Arroyave, who
had a (83-85) 168.
