JUNGLE IN WIN OVER
FALCONS, 14-9

Raleigh, N.C. - The
Tigers of Saint
Paul's College
traveled to
Broughton High
School, Raleigh, NC
to battle the
Falcons of Saint
Augustine's College
Saturday
afternoon. The
Tigers displayed to
the fans who ruled
the jungle by
defeating the
Falcons 14-9.
The Falcons, in a
hard fought game
drew first blood on
a 27 yard field goal
by Adison Daniels
with 8:41 left in
the first quarter.
In the 2nd quarter
after a string of
interceptions, two
thrown by SAC
quarterback Kevin
Williams both to
Brian Dennis of the
SPC defense and one
thrown by SPC
quarterback Walter
Virgil to Mark Hall,
the Tigers finally
strike back. A
personal foul called
during a short field
goal attempt negated
three points giving
the tigers a first
down inside the 5
yard line. Fullback
Craig Mangrum
then plunged into
the end zone from 2
yards out making the
score 7-3 after the
extra point by
Davalos with 6:11
left in the half.
On the ensuing kick
off, Richard Boone
displayed the true
speed of
the Falcons with a
big 82 yard return
to the SPC 10
yard line. Two plays
later Arnold Mullins
rushed from 9 yards
out taking the away
from the Tigers.
Adison Daniels extra
point attempt was
blocked making the
score, 7-9 in favor
of the Falcons.
Following a third
quarter plagued with
punts and defensive
strong
holds, the crushing
blow was landed by
the Tigers mid-way
through the fourth
quarter.
Saint Paul's capitalized
on a 16 play, 80
yard drive with a 3
yard touchdown run
by
Andrew Barlow. The
extra was kicked
good by Nelson
Davalos making the
score which ended up
being the final,
14-9.
The Tigers used both
a hard nose defense
and a strong
offensive running
attack to gain this
win game
against the Falcons. SPC's defense
being lead by
Clinton McGee (7
tackles) and Brian
Dennis (2
interceptions, 3
tackles) had seven
players with at
least 5 tackles.
The offense for
the second week in a
row and second time
of the season,
collectively rushed
for at over 150
yards total in the
game.
The Tigers will
host the Elizabeth
City State
University Vikings
next Saturday,
October 27, at
Russell Field,
Lawrenceville, VA.
This will be the
last home contest of
the season
and is recognized
as Senior Day.
Kick-off is schedule
for 1:30p.m.
