Chris Traylor with one of 9 Bulldog sacks

Alabama A&M's offense has been the beacon all year, but Thursday night, the defense took over and led the Bulldogs to a 31-14 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Louis Crews Stadium. Alabama A&M recorded nine sacks and held the Golden Lions to 245 total yards. The game was broadcast live on ESPN-U to a national audience.

The defense forced four turnovers and also had a safety. For the second straight game, Whitney Garrett scored a two-pointer for the Bulldog defense.

The SWAC Offensive Player of the Year, UAPB quarterback Chris Wallace, hardly lived up to the billing throwing an interception to Al Donaldson on the first play of the game.  The Bulldogs turned that into a Jeremy Licea 24-yard field goal and led 3-0 with under three minutes gone in the game.

Another turnover and another Licea kick made it 6-0 midway through the first quarter.

Martel Mallett gave Pine Bluff a lead 7-6, scoring on a seven-yard run with 6:08 left in the first.

A&M would get the lead back for good with 4:35 remaining in the half on an Anthony Green one-yard run.  Licea's point after was blocked and A&M took a 12-7 lead into the intermission.

Garrett's sack and safety keyed the start to the third quarter, and A&M never looked back.  A Kelcy Luke 10-yard touchdown to Gerald Stockdale and another Green run, this time from 10 yards away, gave the Bulldogs a 28-7 lead.
Mickey Dean added a score in the fourth for the Lions, and Licea kicked his third field goal to complete the scoring.

Jeremy Maddox had 3.5 of the team's nine sacks.  Christopher Traylor had two sacks a fumble recovery and three quarterback hurries in his best game of the season.
