DURHAM, N.C. - CSU Bakersfield guard Katie Williams was named Player of the Year, North Carolina Central guard Joanna Miller was selected as Newcomer of the Year, while CSU Bakersfield head coach Tim La Kose was honored as Coach of the Year Wednesday morning, as the 2009-10 NCAA Division I All-Independent Women’s Basketball Team was announced.

On Sunday morning March 12, 1944, during a time of heated racial segregation, the men’s basketball team from the North Carolina College for Negroes (now North Carolina Central University) competed against a squad from the Duke School of Medicine on the campus of NCCU in the first racially integrated college-level basketball game in the South.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released its 2010 NABC Division II All-District teams, recognizing the nation’s best men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes. Among those being honored include Bowie State senior Duke Crews (Hampton, VA, Bethel, Univ. of Tennessee) as a member of the Atlantic Region Second Team.
