DURHAM, N.C. - CSU Bakersfield guard Katie Williams was named Player of the Year, North Carolina Central guard Joanna Miller was selected as Newcomer of the Year, while CSU Bakersfield head coach Tim La Kose was honored as Coach of the Year Wednesday morning, as the 2009-10 NCAA Division I All-Independent Women’s Basketball Team was announced.

Former Lady Trojan two-year starter, Leslie Phillips (Riverdale, GA) was awarded an NCAA Division II Degree-Completion Grant. Leslie Phillips will graduate from Virginia State University in December 2010. Phillips was also a two year member of the Lady Trojans basketball team that recorded back-to-back 20 win seasons.

GREENSBORO – Ta’Wuana “Tweet” Cook has worn the North Carolina A&T Aggies jersey for the last time, but that still hasn’t stopped her from picking up another accomplishment.

Cook has been named first-team Division I all-state by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association. Cook adds this to her list of accomplishments that include being a three-time All-MEAC selection with one of those selections being a first-team honor.

On Sunday morning March 12, 1944, during a time of heated racial segregation, the men’s basketball team from the North Carolina College for Negroes (now North Carolina Central University) competed against a squad from the Duke School of Medicine on the campus of NCCU in the first racially integrated college-level basketball game in the South.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released its 2010 NABC Division II All-District teams, recognizing the nation’s best men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes.
