NEW ORLEANS -- Brittany Powell, the leading scorer and second-leading rebounder for the Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball team, has been chosen All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference by the league's head coaches.

Powell, a 6-foot junior forward from Milwaukee, Wis., and a graduate of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School, is averaging 11.6 points and six rebounds per game for the Gold Nuggets, who will play Tougaloo at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the GCAC Tournament at The Barn.

Powell also leads the Nuggets with a .515 field-goal percentage, 23.2 minutes per game, 77 free throws and 108 free-throw attempts. The San Jose State transfer started 18 of 30 games and was chosen GCAC and Louisiana Player of the Week for Dec. 1-7 after scoring a career-high 25 points in a victory at Wiley.

Powell was the only Xavier player to make the 15-member team.
Xavier, an NAIA Division I member, was 22-8 in the regular season -- reaching 20 victories for a school-record-tying eight consecutive time -- and 13-5 in the GCAC to finish third out of 10 teams.
The All-GCAC men's basketball team will be announced Tuesday.
