WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Winston-Salem State men’s basketball team returns to action on Monday evening at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C. as they look to end a one-game losing streak after falling in defeat to Florida A&M 71-69 this past Saturday evening at the Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Rams welcome the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University to town as WSSU looks to complete the season sweep over B-CU at the Joel Coliseum, a venue in which the Rams are still searching for their first victory of the season. The contest, between two Historically Black University rivals, will mark the second, and final, of two meetings between the two teams this season. The contest will be shown live on ESPNU and will mark the Rams’ second live television appearance of the season.

The Matchup

The Rams head into the contest sporting an 8-19 overall record and are 5-11 in the New Year as they are riding a one-game losing streak following a 71-69 loss to MEAC-member and heated rival Florida A&M on Saturday evening in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Wildcats head into Monday’s matchup sporting a 14-15 (8-7 MEAC) overall record and are coming off of a 65-53 loss to South Carolina State at the Smith-Hammond-Middelton Memorial Center in Orangeburg, S.C. on Saturday afternoon as the Wildcats are now riding a one-game losing streak of their own.

The Series

The Rams and Wildcats meet for the fifth time in history. The all-time series goes in favor of the Rams as WSSU leads 3-1. WSSU and Bethune-Cookman have developed a heated rivalry that started on the gridiron and has made its way to the hardwood. The Rams’ recent 62-61 overtime victory over B-CU in Daytona Beach, Fla. on Feb. 2 marked the Rams’ second consecutive victory in the series. Neither team has ever swept the season series.

The Rams are currently riding a two-game win streak over the Wildcats as Bethune-Cookman lost the last meeting between the two teams, a 62-61 WSSU overtime victory on Feb. 2, 2009 at the Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach, Fla. WSSU has now won two of the last three meetings between the two programs.
