WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A bittersweet cap on the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference
(MEAC) basketball tournament was University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) junior April McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y.) being named to the All-Tournament team. She was the only player honored who did not compete in the title game.

Head Coach Fred Batchelor referred to McBride as a "championship caliber player."

She scored all 14 of her team-high points in the second half of the Lady Hawks semi-final loss to eventual 2009 MEAC Champion North Carolina A&T.

The 6-0 forward averaged18.3 pts per game against conference opponents this year and finished the season leading the team in points (420), rebounds (223) and made free throws (155).

Batchelor said that McBride and other key returners continued play will vital in the success of the program next year.

"I believe it's going to be their leadership," he added, "that is going to make the difference in us being the champion of the MEAC and not just a good team in the MEAC."
