JENNIFER JONES 02/28/09

Marks third time the Lady Hawk has received the honor since its inception.

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) junior April
McBride (New Rochelle, N.Y.) received 88 percent of the Heritage Sports Radio Network
(HSRN) fan poll votes to be named National Division I Women's Player of the Week for the period ending February 21. Beating out Gaati Werema of Prairie View, McBride grabs the honor for the third time this season, second consecutive.

The honor caps off a week where McBride was also recognized by the Mid-Eastern Athletic
Conference (MEAC) as Player of the Week. She led the Lady Hawks to a 2-0 finish while
averaging a double-double of 16.5 points and 12 rebounds.

McBride shot 50 percent from the floor and added three steals, two blocks and two assists to her stellar performance. She also recorded her 10th double-double of the season in the Lady Hawks win over Norfolk State.

HSRN developed the fan poll to get all historically black university and college alumni, students and fans involved with the national process and to also give everyone a chance to consistently keep up with the individual performances around the country.

The Lady Hawks sit in fourth place in the conference and will look to McBride to help lift them to victory over MEAC rival Coppin State on February 28. Tipoff against the Lady Eagles is set for 2 p.m. in Baltimore, Md.
