Freshman guard Parker Smith and sophomore guard, Gerald Robinson, Jr. have been granted a release from their scholarships at Tennessee State University.

Robinson, a 6-0, 160 lb native of Nashville, TN (MLK HS), completed his sophomore season with the Tigers leading the team in scoring (17.8 ppg) and steals with 61 (2.0). He was named to the Ohio Valley Conference second team following the 2008-09 season. In two seasons, Robinson has scored 1,021 points (16.6 ppg).

Smith, a 6-3, 180 lb native of Gainesville, GA (Chestatee HS), averaged 9.0 ppg last season, scoring 271 points while playing in all 30 games, starting eight, at TSU. Parker led the Tigers in three-point shooting hitting 59-of-145 for a .407 percentage. Smith was named to the Ohio Valley Conference All-Newcomer team for the 2008-09 season.

Last season, Tennessee State men’s basketball team finished with a record of 12-18. John Cooper, former associate head coach at Auburn University, was named the new coach on March 30, 2009.
