RECOGNITION KEEPS COMING FOR NCCU’S BRISCOE Kyle Serba 04/09/09 Eagles Basketball Guard Makes Freshman Mid-Major All-America Team North Carolina Central University guard Jamar Briscoe has added to his list of accolades from his rookie season, this time being named to the 2009 CollegeInsider.com Freshman Mid-Major All-America Team. A 5-10 guard from Baltimore, Md., Briscoe was chosen to the team by a panel of Division I coaches, NBA scouts and CollegeInsider.com staff. Briscoe was the second-leading scoring freshman in the nation, trailing only Seth Curry of Liberty, and became the first freshman in school history to score more than 500 points. As a starter in 30 of the team's 31 games as a true freshman, missing one game due to injury, Briscoe led the Eagles in scoring (535 points / 17.8 avg.), assists (79 / 2.6 avg.) and steals (53 / 1.8 avg.). He scored more than 20 points in a game 11 times, including five games with 30 or more. Briscoe has also been honored as the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) Division I Men's Basketball National Rookie of the Year and the NCAA Division I Independent Newcomer of the Year, while being named to the NCAA Division I All-Independent Team and the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State Team.
