Lady Panthers Advance to SIAC Championship‏

Clark Atlanta University’s Lady Panthers advanced to the SIAC women’s championship by defeating the Thorobrettes of Kentucky State University 64-54. Clark Atlanta improves to 26-3 overall while Kentucky State finishes its season at 19-11.

For the second consecutive day, the Lady Panthers had to overcome a halftime deficit. Kentucky State led Clark Atlanta 33-24 at the half, but the Lady Panthers responded with a strong second half, outscoring the Thorobrettes. Shantrell Moss, the SIAC’s top scorer and “Player of the Year”, finished with her second consecutive “double-double” of the tournament by scoring 31 points and pulling down 16 rebounds, both game highs. Sheaywond Williams also had a good outing for the Lady Panthers with eight points and 14 rebounds. Rebounding proved to a huge factor for CAU as they out rebounded KSU 51-39. Clark Atlanta also forced Kentucky State into committing 21 turnovers. 

Kentucky State had three players to score in double figures led by Cortney Mattewis’ 12 points.

Clark Atlanta will face Fort Valley State tomorrow (Mar. 8) at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).
