AIKEN, SC -- North Carolina Central University junior Cassie King
has been announced as a member of the 2005-06 Daktronics, Inc. Division
II Women's Basketball South Atlantic All-Region Team, as voted on by the
region's sports information directors.
King, a 6-0 native of Wendell, N.C., earned her second consecutive
selection to the All-Region Team, this year a member of the First Team,
after ranking third in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association
(CIAA) in scoring (18.9 points per game), fourth in rebounding (9.2
rpg), sixth in steals (2.58 spg), 10th in blocked shots (0.75 bpg), and
No. 1 in free throw percentage (82.1 percent).
In just three seasons, King has amassed 1,594 career points, an
average of 18.8 points per game. King needs 14 points to become the
Lady Eagles' all-time career scoring leader. Monica Stewart (1990-94)
currently holds the top position with 1,607 career points. King also
boasts 807 career rebounds and is just the fourth Lady Eagle to reach
the 800-rebound career milestone.
King has led NCCU to a 22-6 overall record and its fourth NCAA
playoff appearance (1984, 2001, 2002, 2006) in school history. The Lady
Eagles, as the No. 4 seed in the region, will face the No. 5 seed
Georgia College & State University (17-13) in the opening round on March
10 at 8 p.m. in Spaulding Gymnasium on the campus of Shaw University in
Raleigh, N.C.
