BUILDERS TOP TROJANS 13-7

Virginia State University's Daniel Cornett had three hits while Marcus
Waller and Jonathan Scott slammed doubles, but The Apprentice School was
able to down the Trojans 13-7 in baseball on Friday in Hampton, Va.

After giving up a pair in the first on singles by Michael Knight and
Cornett, the Builders answered with four in its half of the first
inning.

Virginia State tied it with a pair in the second on an RBI single by
Shawn McEnhimer and an Apprentice School error.

The Builders answered with another four-run inning in its half of the
second. Fields doubled to center field scoring a pair, while Eric Polk
singled in a run and the fourth scored on a wild pitch to give
Apprentice School an 8-4 lead.

The hosts pushed the advantage to 11-5 in the fourth with three runs.
Baker singled to center for a run and J.D. Drewry singled to right field
scoring another while the third scored on an error.

Apprentice School put the game away with single runs in the fifth and
seventh innings. Baker scored a run on a ground out in the fifth, while
Polk singled in a run in the seventh for the 13-7 final margin.

Five Builders had two or more hits in the contest: Drewry was 2-for-5
with a RBI, Fields was 2-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBIs,
Beale and Wagner's three-hit day each and polk was 2-for-3 with a pair
of RBIs. Baker drove in three runs going 1-for-2 with a walk and a
sacrifice fly.

Freshman Daniel Lutz earned the victory throwing the first five inning,
while Ryan Collins closed the game throwing the last four allowing no
hits and striking out two.

VSU returns home to Colbert Field to face Saint Augustine's College in
a double-header on Saturday.
