TIGERS TAKE TWO OF THREE IN SERIES AGAINST PRAIRIE VIEW

Prairie View, TX-The Texas Southern Tigers headed to Prairie View A&M for a three game series over the weekend. It was their first meeting since the Tigers beat the Panthers to claim the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship in 2008.

TSU won two of the three games at the PV baseball complex. They lost the first one in the last inning (4-5), but came back to capture back to back victories, 3-1 and 16-6.

Three Tigers batted .500 or better in the series. Right fielder David James (SR, Desoto, TX) had the best showing with six hits, including a homerun and two RBIs in eight trips to the plate (.750 batting average. Designated hitter Adam Sellers (JR, Lufkin) had six hits, with a double and one RBI on 11 at bats (.545). Shortstop Kennedy Kimbell (R-JR, Los Angeles) went 2 of 4 with one RBI.

First baseman Earnest Rhone (SR, Texarkana, TX) led the team with three RBIs, while center fielder Deshaun Dilworth (SR, Vallejo, CA) and left fielder Charles Derkowski (SR, Houston, TX) each had one homerun.

On the mound, David Arrendondo (SR, Houston, TX) had nine strikeouts against 28 batters in 7.1 innings pitched and Ehern Moreno (SR, Houston, TX) had six strikeouts against 36 batters in nine innings…pitching his first complete game of the season.

The Tigers are 11-12 overall and 5-7 in conference. Their next home game is April 11 against Grambling at MacGregor park.
