NCCU BASEBALL LEADS NATION IN STOLEN BASES

     DURHAM, N.C. – In its first year of baseball since 1975, North Carolina Central University is currently leading the nation in stolen bases. 
     The Eagles are at the top of the NCAA Division II statistical list in stolen bases per game with an average of 4.72 per contest (through games of April 8). As a team, NCCU has stolen 170 bases in 193 attempts.
     Individually, NCCU freshman center fielder Oliver Jenkins (Rocky Mount, N.C.) leads a list of four Eagles ranked in the nation's top 30 stolen bases leaders. Jenkins is second in the NCAA Division II ranks with an average of 0.94 stolen bases per game, followed by senior Marcus Mack (9th, 0.83), freshman Kurt Wilson (19th, 0.73) and freshman Tim McAllister (27th, 0.61).
     On Feb. 24, NCCU broke the NCAA Division II record for stolen bases in a game with 19 swipes during a 13-10 victory at Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh, N.C.
     Other Eagles ranked among the top 10 statistical leaders in the NCAA Division II are freshman pitcher Alex Weathersby, who is tied for third in the nation with eight victories, and Mack, who is seventh in Division II in walks per game (1.0).
