MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS
Wildcats’ Gonzalez and
Burgos, Hawks’ Winch Earn Weekly Honors

Va.
– Bethune-Cookman University third
baseman Luis Gonzalez earned MEAC Player
of the Week honors in baseball, the
league announced on Monday. Gonzalez’
teammate Hiram Burgos was named Pitcher
of the Week, while Maryland Eastern
Shore’s Tyler Winch earned Rookie of the
Week accolades.
Gonzalez (3B, 5-11, Sr., Cayey,
Puerto Rico)
led the
Wildcats to a 2-2 week, while hitting
.533 and recording eight hits and six
runs in 14 appearances at the plate.
Gonzalez recorded two doubles and posted
four RBIs. He added five putouts and
five assists in a strong defensive
effort for the Wildcats.
Burgos
(P, 5-11, So., Cayey, Puerto, Rico)
was 1-0
last week against North Carolina A&T
during his first MEAC start. Burgos
pitched five complete innings allowing
only three hits and one walk while
striking out seven of the 20 batters he
faced. Against Stetson, Burgos pitched
one inning, not allowing any hits while
striking out four batters.
Winch (OF, 6-0, Fr.,
Middletown, Pa.)
helped the
Hawks to a 1-1 week against Norfolk
State while batting .750 from the plate.
In the win against the Spartans, Winch
was 4-for-4 from the plate and recorded
two doubles and two RBIs. Defensively
Winch tallied four putouts for the
Hawks.
Other Top Performers:
Orlando
Bacon (B-CU)
recorded
one hit and one RBI, while batting .333
in a win over North Carolina A&T.
Joel Gonzalez (UMES)
was
3-for-4 at the plate and recorded two
RBIs in a win against Norfolk State.
Dustin Longchamps
(UMES)
struck out eight Norfolk
State batters to collect his third win
of the year.
Leon Schabacker (NSU)
pitched
his second straight complete game of the
season in a win over Maryland Eastern
Shore. Schabacker struck out five and
walked three of the 27 batters he faced.
