MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS
Rattlers’ James, Spartans’ Schabacker
and Hawks’ Dean Earn Weekly Honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.
– Florida A&M University utility player
David James earned MEAC Player of the
Week honors in baseball, the league
announced on Monday. Norfolk State’s
Leon Schabacker was named Pitcher of the
Week, while Maryland Eastern Shore
centerfielder Josh Dean earned Rookie of
the Week accolades.
James (UTL, 6-1, Jr., Tallahassee, Fla.)
led the Rattlers to a 3-1 week while
tallying a .600 batting average with
five doubles and four RBIs. In the
second game of a three-game series
against Maryland Eastern Shore, James
was perfect 3-for-3 from the plate.
Defensively he added a blistering 34
putouts and four assists for Florida
A&M.
Schabacker (P, 5-10, Jr.,Virginia Beach,
Va.)
tossed his second shutout and third
complete game of the season in a win
over Delaware State. Schabacker tied his
career-high with nine strikeouts and
improved to 3-5 for the season.
Dean (CF, 6-1, Fr., Dagsboro, Del.)
recorded a .333 batting average and
posted one triple and four RBIs last
week for the Hawks. Dean was 4-of-5
against Florida A&M in the final game of
a three-game series. During the week,
Dean walked twice and stole two bases.
Other Top Performers:
Hiram Burgos (B-CU)
posted his second shutout of the season
in a victory over Coppin State. Burgos
struck out five and walked two in the
10-0 win.
Joel Gonzalez (UMES)
hit .333 from the plate, while recording
five hits and five runs in 15
appearances at the plate.
Luis Gonzalez (B-CU)
batted .400 with five runs and five RBIs
to help the Wildcats to a 4-0 week.
Felix Machado (B-CU)
struck out two and allowed only one hit
against three batters in the three
innings he pitched for the Wildcats.
Cirilo Manego (FAMU)
was 1-0 last week, striking out 10 and
walking three during nine innings and 41
batters faced.
Juan Serrano (NSU)
led the Spartans to a 3-1 week by
batting .438 from the plate and
recording two doubles and one RBI.
