MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS
North Carolina A&T’s McIntyre and Phelps and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Dean Earn Weekly Honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – North Carolina A&T State University outfielder Joe McIntyre earned MEAC Player of the Week honors in baseball, the league announced on Monday.  McIntyre’s teammate Ron Phelps was named Pitcher of the Week, while Maryland Eastern Shore’s Josh Dean earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

McIntyre (OF, 5-10, Jr., Fuquay Varina, N.C.) hit a grand slam, a walk-off double and threw three players out at the plate from right field during a three game series against Maryland Eastern Shore last week.  McIntyre finished the week 8-for-18 with a home run, four doubles, and 10 RBIs in the Aggies four-game stretch. 

Phelps (P, 6-2, Jr., Roper, N.C.) picked up back-to-back victories last week against Maryland Eastern Shore after entering both games with a tied score.  He pitched five innings in three games allowing three hits and one walk while striking out nine of the 20 batters he faced.

Dean (OF, 6-1, Fr., Dagsboro, Del.) was .450 at the plate with nine hits and three RBIs in five games for the Hawks last week.  He was perfect against North Carolina A&T finishing 3-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base in the outing. 

Other Top Performers:

Joel Gonzalez (UMES) recorded a .416 batting average with a double and two RBIs for the Hawks last week.

Angel Negron (BCU) was amazing from the plate with a .625 batting average finishing with three doubles in eight appearances to post two victories for the Wildcats.

Francisco Rodriguez (BCU) stayed perfect against MEAC opponents, pitching 7.2 innings with a 1.17 ERA against Norfolk State.
