MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASEBALL HONOR
Hawks’ Gonzalez, Dean and Wildcats’
Gautier Earn Weekly Honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. –
University of Maryland Eastern Shore
outfielder/catcher Joel Gonzalez earned
MEAC baseball Player of the Week honors,
the league announced on Monday. Bethune-Cookman’s
Joseph Gautier was named Pitcher of the
Week and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Josh
Dean earned Rookie of the Week
accolades.
Gonzalez
(OF/C, 6-0, 185, Beltsville, Md.)
posted a .619 batting average for the
week to help the Hawks to a 3-3 mark,
including a 3-0 conference record last
week. Gonzalez recorded 13 hits,
including a double, a triple and 10 RBIs
in 21 appearances at bat. He also walked
four times, stole two bases, tallied 16
putouts with one assist.
Gautier
(P, 5-10, 165, Dorado, Puerto Rico) was
1-0 last week in the second game of a
doubleheader against Florida A&M. The
win was the second straight and the
first back-to-back victory for Gautier,
who was 1-0 last week against Savannah
State. Gautier finished with a 0.00 ERA
with two unearned runs, while yielding
three hits against the Rattlers. He also
struck out three and walked two, facing
25 batters. This is the second straight
week that Gautier has earned Pitcher of
the Week accolades.
Dean
(OF, 6-1, 185, Dagsboro, Del.) recorded
his first career home run against Coppin
State in the first game of a
doubleheader last week. Dean averaged
.471 from the field including eight
hits, five walks and five RBIs during 17
times at bat. He added three stolen
bases and posted 11 putouts and one
assist last week.
Other Top Performers:
J.R. McAllister
(P, DSU) struck out eight and walked
three to finish 1-0 against Farleigh
Dickinson in his only start last week
for the Hornets.
Angel Mercado
(OF, BCU) batted .429 in four games on
6-of-14 hitting at the plate, including
two home runs to help the Wildcats to a
3-1 record last week.
Juan Serrano
(3B, NSU) hit his first homer of the
year against William and Mary and tied a
career-high five RBIs against North
Carolina A&T.
Tom Shelley
(IF, DSU) recorded a one double, and a
RBI, while batting .611 during a 3-2
week for the Hornets.
Daniel Sterling
(P, UMES) earned his first career win
against Coppin State. Sterling did not
give up any hits and struck out four in
4.1 innings of play.
De’Mece Williams
(P, NSU) struck out six batters and
allowed one run in over seven innings
against North Carolina A&T.
