ECSU Finishes Season Series with 3-1 Record against Bears

ELIZABETH CITY, NC- The Elizabeth City State University baseball team completed their season series versus Shaw University a split in front of their home crowd at Holmes Field.

In game one, J.J. House’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the 8th completed an 11-10 come from behind victory for the Vikings. For the game House finished going 3-5 with 2 home runs and 2 putouts. The Vikings trailed 9-2 entering their half of the 4th inning. ECSU then reeled off three runs in the 4th and five more in the 5th to take their first lead of the afternoon. The Bear’s Donta Fuller evened the game with a solo shot the 7th setting the stage for House’s heroics in the 8th inning.

In game two just the opposite was the case of the day’s predecessor. The Viking jumped out to a 10-1 lead by the close of the 2nd inning. The Bears then went on to hold ECSU scoreless sans a run in the 5th, while they rolled off 14 runs to take a 15-11 advantage into the bottom of the 7th. House delivered with a two-run triple to trim the lead to 15-13 before Stephen Green struck out to end the game.

The Bears end the afternoon at 15-18 overall and 8-6 in the CIAA, while ECSU boasts a 14-9 overall record with an 8-4 conference mark.

The Vikings will return to action on Friday, April 6 as they play host to North Carolina Central University. The CIAA doubleheader is slated for a 1:00pm start in Elizabeth City, NC at Knobbs Creek. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
