FOUR VIKINGS EARN CIAA WEEKLY BASEBALL HONORS

HAMPTON, VA- Four members of the Elizabeth City State University baseball team have topped the weekly CIAA honors as released by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.

Junior outfielder J. J. House has been named the CIAA Player of the Week. In the Vikings 17-4 win over North Carolina Central on April 6 the Williamston, NC native went 5-5 with 8 RBI, 3 doubles and a triple. In eight games last week House posted a batting average of 657 including 15 hits and 16 RBI.

Also garnering weekly honors are juniors Nick Johnson and Meshaw Taylor. Johnson, a first baseman who hails from Greensboro, NC was voted the Offensive Player of the Week after batting .519 via 4 home runs (14 hits) and 11 RBI. Taylor, a native of Charlotte, NC, earned Defensive Player of the Week honors with 11 putouts and 21 assists from the short stop position. He also had a productive week at the plate driving in 12 runs and while scattering 15 hits.

Rounding out the weekly honors is eighth year coach Terrance Whittle who nabs his first CIAA Coach of the Week honor this season. The Viking posted a 5-3 record becoming the first team this season to sweep a doubleheader from North Carolina Central. ECSU also took the season series from both Shaw and NCCU 3-1 and swept Saint Paul’s 4-0.

The Vikings will return to action at the 2007 CIAA Baseball Tournament in Petersburg, VA April 18-21st.
