Bethune-Cookman’s Gautier Grabs MEAC
Pitcher of the Week Award

(VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – )
Sophomore pitcher Joseph Gautier of
Bethune-Cookman University has been
named as this week’s Mid-Eastern
Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week
after a stellar performance against
rival Florida A&M over the weekend.
For the second time in as many weeks,
Gautier picked up the weekly accolade
from the conference office in Virginia
Beach, Va.
Gautier, a 5-foot-10, 165-pouund
sophomore from Dorado, Puerto Rico,
became the “artist on the hill” once
again as his nickname
Gio
became a
Giovanni of sorts on Saturday
as he wrote the perfect ending to a
doubleheader affair against a stubborn
Rattlers squad filled with powerful
hitters.
In the second game of a doubleheader
against the Rattlers, Gautier pitched
the entire game for the Wildcats as he
worked seven innings on the hill. He
gave up just two runs (both unearned) on
three hits while striking out three
batters as well. He allowed just two
walks on the day.
He started off the game not allowing a
single hit through the first 3.1 innings
of play. After two unearned runs were
posted in the fifth inning, Gautier sat
down six of the next seven batters to
end the game.
For Gautier, it was the first
back-to-back wins of his career, as well
as the first MEAC win of his young and
promising career at B-CU. In the
process, the sophomore lowered his ERA
for the year down to 2.97,
appropriately.
The Wildcats will get back to action on
Tuesday when they travel over to
Gainesville, Fla. to do battle with the
Gators of the University of Florida.
The game is set to take place at 6:30 pm
with Hiram Burgos toeing the hill for
the ‘Cats.
