GSU BASEBALL GAMER

HOUSTON -- Grambling State's hopes of a Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball tournament bid dwindled to faint Friday as Texas Southern swept a doubleheader over the Tigers at McGregor Field.
TSU won the opener 12-10 and game two 9-6.
Grambling currently stands in fourth place in the SWAC West at 20-24 overall and 12-18 in the SWAC West while Texas Southern is in second at 23-22 and 20-10. The Tigers are battling Arkansas-Pine Bluff (23-24, 14-16) for third place and final divisional SWAC championship berth.
The SWAC Championship tournament features the top three finishers from each division and will begin next Thursday at Centenary College in Shreveport.
GSU needs to sweep a doubleheader over Texas Southern today to tie UAPB, which could play two rain make-up games against Southern early next week. The Tigers beat UAPB in a head-to-head games tiebreaker.
Texas Southern rallied late to win the first game, pushing across four runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie things at 10-10 and moving the contest into extra innings. TSU won it in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run blast from Cedric Burns.
Ryan Haskell led GSU in the opener with a 3-for-4 batting performance with three RBIs and his seventh home run of the season.
Grambling led 5-0 early on in game two before Texas Southern stormed back for the three-run win.
Catcher Jonathan Jones led the Tigers in the nightcap with a 3-for-3 batting performance with one RBI.
Channing Cornelius picked up the game one loss to fall to 0-1 while Melvin Toliver was the game two loser to drop to 5-5.
