Stillman Baseball Team Wins Second Consecutive Home Opener

(TUSCALOOSA, AL) The Stillman College baseball team won its second
consecutive home season opener by defeating the Maryville College Scots 11-1
in Great South conference action at the Stillman baseball complex Friday
evening
After splitting a double header with Miles College in the season opener last
weekend Stillman now has a 2-1 overall record and a 1-0 conference record.
Freshman pitcher Scott Smith pitched a complete game, going seven innings
for the win. He gave up one run on eight hits, while stricking out five
batters for his first win of the season.

Maryville starter Tripp Smith would leave after five innings allowing 11
runs on 15 hits and two walks. Stillman blew the game open in the fourth
inning, scoring seven runs to build a 9-1 lead. Designated hitter Trimicheal
Sullivan started the scoring frenzy with a triple. Sullivan was later
brought in by Vernelle Quinuie. In the fourth the Tigers recorded six more
hits (three doubles), one walk and seven RBI..

Offensively Maryville struggled managing eight hits off Smith.

Stillman will next play on Saturday, February 16 as the again host Maryville
College in a double header. Game one is slated for a 12 noon start time.
