(Boiling Spring, NC)- With three starters missing out
of the lineup, the Wolverines defense was put to the
test against the Bulldogs of Gardner Webb University.
Unfortunately the defense failed, committing six
errors and four pass balls leading to eight unearned
runs.

After falling behind 6-1 after two innings the
Wolverines had there chance at the big inning in the
3rd, when Anthony Clay led off with a homerun, then
was followed by a walk to right fielder Gerard
Johnson, and three consecutive singles to pull within
three. However starter Dan Rothem left the bases
loaded as he struck out two straight Wolverines
batters and force a pop up for the third out. MBC
squandered another opportunity in 5th, down 9-3, the
Wolverines would pull within four after collecting
four single and a walk. That rally was stymied by
base running errors from Barry Mincey, out at second
on a throw behind by the center fielder leading to the
first out of the inning, and Anthony Austin, picked
off by the pitcher at second base leading to the
second out. Morris Brown collected 13 hits, led by
Anthony Clay (3 for 5, HR, RBI), Jeremiah Fielder (3
for 5, RBI), and also left 10 runners on in the loss.

Starter Jordan Cambron suffered the loss, falling to
1-3 on the year. Cambron pitched five innings,
allowing nine hits, surrendering four earned runs,
while striking out five. Randy Reid finished in
relief going three innings, allowed two earned runs
and struck out three Bulldogs batters.

Morris Brown returns home to Mozley Park where they
are 7-4 for the their final game of the 2002 Season.
The Wolverines will host Concordia College; on
Saturday April 27 with the first pitched schedule for
