Dooley holds on as B-CC defeats Maine 5-4

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Senior right-hander Jason Dooley fanned three of five batters he faced in the ninth inning to pitch a complete game and preserve Bethune-Cookman College's 5-4 victory over Maine Thursday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

The Wildcats (17-6) extended their win streak to seven while handing Maine (4-1), which pounded B-CC 5-2 and 14-9 last year, their first loss in their southeast road swing.

Dooley (4-2) struck out 10 batters, walked three and allowed eight hits.

After Maine jumped out to a 3-1 lead, B-CC tied the game in the bottom of the sixth when Savannah Dean (1-for-3) singled to drive home Carlos Marerro (2-for-4), who had doubled to the centerfield wall to score Jose Ramos (3-for-4, 1 RBI).

In the seventh, Wes Timmons (2-for-4, 1 RBI) walked, then stole second before scoring on Ramos' single to center field to give B-CC a 4-3 lead.

Maine tied the game in the top of eighth with Simon Williams scoring on Alaine Pichard's single. The Wildcats responded in the bottom of the eighth.

After Marerro singled, pinch-hitter Carlos Burgos ripped a single to the left centerfield wall, advancing Marrero to third. With one out, Micah Simmons then hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Marrero, and giving B-CC the victory.

B-CC takes on Rhode Island at 7 p.m. Saturday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

The Wildcats finished with 10 hits, while Maine had 8 hits.
