Forest, Director March 22, 2001 BRAVES GET SET FOR J-STATE IN WEEKEND HOME AND AWAY SERIES GAME DATA ALCORN STATE, Miss. - This weekend, the Alcorn State Braves (11-7,8-4 SWAC Eastern Division) will engage in a home-and-home doubleheader series against interstate rival Jackson State Tigers. On Saturday afternoon, the Braves will face the Tigers at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson for a 1 p.m. start. Then on Sunday afternoon, the Tigers will travel to Braves Field on Alcorn State's campus for a 12:30 p.m. start. ON-AIR INFORMATION If you can not make it to either Smith-Wills Stadium or Braves Field, you can catch live action on the Alcorn State Radio Network. Play-by-play announcer Charles Edmond (?The Voice of the Braves?) will bring you the live action on Alcorn State?s flagship station at WPRL (91.7 FM). LAST GAME ACTION On Wednesday afternoon, the Braves were defeated 13-3 by the Loyola Wolfpack at Wesley Barrow Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana. A contributing factor in this game was that Alcorn State gave up six runs in the first inning which included five walks and two hits. The Braves were led by center fielder Kris Peters and first baseman Dale Rucker at the plate. Peters went three of four at the plate including a pair of stolen bases while scoring a run. Rucker had a pair of sacrifice flyouts which brought home a pair of runs. THE COACH Alcorn State is led by Willie ?Rat? McGowan who is a 1960 graduate. He has both a school and career record of 581 wins, 512 losses and three ties in his 31st season with the Braves. THIS WEEKEND'S OPPONENT ? JACKSON STATE TIGERS The Jackson State Tigers led by head coach Mark Salter are currently sporting a 10-9 record along with a 6-2 mark in SWAC Eastern Division play. The team won three of four home games against Alabama A&M last weekend. The players to watch are outfielder Michael Goss and infielder Chris Outlaw. Goss is a 5-foot-11-inch sophomore who is the team in batting with a .362 average along with 11 runs batted in. Outlaw is a 6-foot-1 inch, 200-pound junior who next in line with a .333 batting average along with nine of ten stolen bases.
