THREE BRAVES EARN FIRST TEAM ALL-SWAC HONORS
SHREVEPORT, La. -- The Southwestern Athletic Conference
officially announced the 2002 All-Southwestern Athletic Conference
baseball team and there are three players from Alcorn State who
represent team which was announced by the league office on Monday.
Outfielder Kris Peters, third baseman Byron Tillman and designated
hitter Janone Watts were the three individuals who represented the
Braves which was voted upon by the league's head coaches.
Peters is a 5-foot-9 inch, 165-pound junior who has a .353 batting average, 31 runs batted in, 43 runs scored, nine doubles, four triples and three home runs while stealing a team high of 30 of 32 bases. Tillman is a 6-foot-1 inch, 200-pound senior who is currently leading the team in hitting with a .381 batting average. He also has 36 runs batted in, 34 runs scored, ten doubles, four triples and two home runs. The Oxford, Mississippi native was a first team selection during the 2001 season.
Watts is a 6-foot-3 inch, 250-pound sophomore who is sporting
a .309 batting average along with 22 runs batted in, 17 runs scored,
twelve doubles and one home run.
Alcorn State will face the Grambling State Tigers today at
6:00 p.m. in the first round of the SWAC baseball tournament which
will be played on the campus of Centenary College in Shreveport,
Louisiana.
