Scott Boatright GSU SPORTS INFORMATION 4/30/02 BASEBALL: GSU to face Alcorn State in SWAC tourney GRAMBLING -- Grambling State's postseason baseball dreams came through courtesy of Southern University Tuesday. Southern's doubleheader sweep over Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Jackson State gave GSU a third-place finish in the Southwestern Athletic Conference's West Division and the SWAC's final championship playoff berth. Grambling, the No. 3 seed from the SWAC West behind Southern and Texas Southern, will play Alcorn State, the No. 1 seed from the East Division, at 6 p.m. Thursday at Centenary College in Shreveport. The tourney begins at noon Thursday as Southern faces Alabama State, the No. 3 seed from the SWAC East. Jackson State and Texas Southern will meet off in the No. 2 seed game at 3 p.m. Thursday. Grambling State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff both finished the divisional season with identical 14-18 records, but the Tigers advance to the SWAC tournament on a head-to-head tiebreaker. GSU beat UAPB in 5-of-8 games this season.
