honor Winston-Salem State University
Associate Director of Athletics/Senior
Woman Administrator Tonia Walker with
the 2008 Nell Jackson Award.

recently attended a joint NCAA/ NACWAA conference for Senior Women

named Lincoln (Pa.) Director of Athletics

Pennsylvania has named Dianthia Ford-Kee as its new
Director of Athletics. Ford-Kee comes to Lincoln from
Shaw University where she served as the Associate

been named Associate Commissioner, Ashley

Charles “Chuck” Prophet, 67, former athletic director at
Mississippi Valley State University, who died last
Friday, June 20, 2008, at Greenwood ]-LeFlore Hospital.
Services have been set for Saturday June 28th at 11 a.m.
in the R.W. Harrison HPER Complex on the MVSU campus.
Visitation is set for 3 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday at Century
Funeral Home, 801 Walthall St. in Greenwood, MS. Family

ELECTED CIAA PRESIDENT

Peggy Davis, Athletic Director at Virginia State University, has
been
elected President of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association.
Davis becomes the third female President in the 96-year history
of the CIAA. Davis will replace Alfonza Carter as President for
the two-year term. She has served as Vice-President in

TERMINATED
Tucker, GA –The Council of Presidents, the
governing body of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SIAC), announced today, the termination of Dr.
William E. Lide as Conference Commissioner, which became
effective May 31, 2008. The statement was released by the
Chairman of the Council, Dr. Benjamin F. Payton, who also serves
as President of Tuskegee University. According to Dr.
Payton, “the Council of Presidents regrets very much the
necessity to take this action with respect to Dr. William E.
Lide. |

Administrators To Head Key OVC Committees
Johnson and Phillips to Head OVC Presidents and ADs as Chairs
Wallace Dooley, Jr.
Tennessee State University President Dr. Melvin Johnson and
Athletic Director Teresa Phillips were named to chair the Ohio
Valley Conference Board of Presidents and Board of Athletic
Directors, respectively. The positions are effective for the
2008-09 athletic year.

APPOINTED ATHLETICS DIRECTOR AT NCCU - Miji Bell
DURHAM, NC - North Carolina Central University announces the
appointment of
Ingrid Wicker-McCree, as director of athletics.
“We
are very pleased to announce this appointment,” said Chancellor Charlie
Nelms. “Ingrid’s demonstrated record of leadership and achievement is a
real asset to our team. Not only does she have a history of being a
winning coach, but she has provided excellent leadership during this
transitional period.” Wicker-McCree, who joins the rank of only
a handful of women athletic directors in the UNC system, previously
served as NCCU’s associate athletics director for internal affairs.

Duer
Sharp Named SWAC Commissioner

The Southwestern Athletic Conference Council of Presidents and
Chancellors – Chairman Ronald Mason Jr. – announced the selection of
Duer Sharp as the new Commissioner of the Southwestern Athletic
Conference. Sharp, who begins his duties immediately as the SWAC’s fifth
commissioner, succeeds Robert C. Vowels, Jr. Vowels stepped down in June
to become the vice-president for educational services with the National
Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). IBCSTV : Interim

Duel Sharp, formerly with the Big 10 Conference, brought on board by
departed commission Robert Vowels to develop structure in the conference
commented on his background and response to an inquiry on some of the
factor which may have been consider in the decision to keep the
conference office in Birmingham. |
