WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) will honor Winston-Salem State University Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator Tonia Walker with the 2008 Nell Jackson Award.

Heads-up on the CIAA
The skippy on the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) after a jaw dropping 2008 basketball tournament, deals to extend the B-Ball tournament in Charlotte, NC and move the Football championship game to Durham, NC. were topics on the table in discussion with Commissioner Leon G. Kerry along with Television markets,  growing the conference to potentially 14 members, and compliance with the NCAA's  D II Regional Realignment Structure to IBCS/BCSO at the 2008 football kickoff.

Chancellor Stanley Battle citing “he's and Aggie” introduced Aggie Hall of Framer Wheeler Brown (1979) for the vacant athletic director position at North Carolina A&T.  Brown who served in an interim capacity during the search addressed the assembled media and Aggie supporters stressing academics, competitiveness, and renewal of the Aggie Swagger.

Ford-Kee named Lincoln (Pa.) Director of Athletics  Rob Knox

VSU'S PEGGY DAVIS ELECTED CIAA PRESIDENT

Peggy Davis, Athletic Director at Virginia State University, has been
elected President of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Davis becomes the third female President in the 96-year history of the CIAA. Davis will replace Alfonza Carter as President for the two-year term.  She has served as Vice-President in 2007-08.  VSU Photo

–The Council of Presidents, the governing body of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), announced today, the termination of Dr. William E. Lide as Conference Commissioner, which became effective May 31, 2008.  The statement was released by the Chairman of the Council, Dr. Benjamin F. Payton, who also serves as President of Tuskegee University.  According to Dr. Payton, “the Council of Presidents regrets very much the necessity to take this action with respect to Dr. William E. Lide.

- North Carolina Central University announces the appointment of Ingrid Wicker-McCree, as director of athletics.  “We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” said Chancellor Charlie Nelms. “Ingrid’s demonstrated record of leadership and achievement is a real asset to our team. Not only does she have a history of being a winning coach, but she has provided excellent leadership during this transitional period.”  Wicker-McCree, who joins the rank of only a handful of women athletic directors in the UNC system, previously served as NCCU’s associate athletics director for internal affairs. Duer Sharp Named SWAC Commissioner

The Southwestern Athletic Conference Council of Presidents and Chancellors – Chairman Ronald Mason Jr. – announced the selection of Duer Sharp as the new Commissioner of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Sharp, who begins his duties immediately as the SWAC’s fifth commissioner, succeeds Robert C. Vowels, Jr. Vowels stepped down in June to become the vice-president for educational services with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). 
IBCSTV : Interim Commissioner Duel Sharp, formerly with the Big 10 Conference, brought on board by departed commission Robert Vowels to develop structure in the conference commented on his background and response to an inquiry on some of the factor which may have been consider in the decision to keep the conference office in Birmingham.
